Review:
Sky Force is a fictionalized war drama based on the 1965 Indo-Pak conflict, particularly India’s daring first air strike on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase. Directed by debutants Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, the film revisits the heroic but long-overlooked contribution of Squadron Leader A.B. Devaiah, renamed Krishna Vijayan (played by newcomer Veer Pahariya), who downed a superior Pakistani Starfighter aircraft despite flying a slower Mystere.
While the film carries strong nationalistic undertones and includes powerful archival nods to Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri, it stumbles in storytelling. Akshay Kumar plays Wing Commander Om Ahuja (inspired by O.P. Taneja) and, although billed as the narrator, overshadows the story’s real hero, reducing Vijayan’s role to a secondary presence.
The aerial combat sequences are visually impressive, especially in the final 20 minutes, but repetitive VFX and predictable patriotic tropes dilute the emotional impact. Despite a meaningful subject, Sky Force struggles with focus and narrative balance, ultimately serving more as a star vehicle than a tribute to unsung heroes.
Verdict: Visually thrilling but narratively uneven war drama that sidelines its true protagonist.
